Jillian Brentzel, LCSW
About me
I am licensed in Georgia, Colorado, Arizona, and Utah with 7 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with anxiety and depression, that may be related to relationship issues, family conflicts, & trauma and abuse, or LGBTQ+ identity. I started my career at the Utah Pride Center in 2015, and I'm now living in Georgia. I have strong family ties to Arizona and Colorado, leading me to be licensed in these states as well.
I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.
I believe having a treatment plan is essential to helping you achieve your goals through therapy. I open sessions by asking for an update specifically about the areas of your life you want to address in therapy. In sessions, I take notes that often includes direct quotes from my clients so I can come back to their specific wording to help explore deeper or not bypass significant issues by letting the conversation flow away. I like to plan ahead for my sessions to be prepared to connect details from past sessions with the new information to keep us moving towards your goals. I like to assign meaningful homework.
My primary interventions include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR. I have a strong background in suicide prevention and am trained to use CAMS (Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality.) For clients seeking to improve their romantic relationships, I draw heavily from John Gottman & Susan Johnson's (Emotion Focused Therapy) work.
